History
Although Totem Wines was officially created in 2006, the company has a long history, dating back 2500 years to the Phoenicians, who introduced the original Monastrell grapes to Ibiza, Spain in 500 B.C.
Fast forward to the 21st century, when two men, studying for their Masters in Wine Management forge a close friendship and discover a passion for wines created from the diverse Mediterranean soil and unique grape varieties.
After completing their studies, which took them to hundreds of wineries around the world, the two men, Laurent Frésard and Arnaud Tremblais, had the opportunity to taste wines for Ibiza in 2006, thus beginning their journey.
In 2007 just 10 000 bottles of Ibizkus were produced, the result of 12 months worth of intensive studies and hard work. In 2008, they embarked on a new Mediterranean mission, to Maury, in the Rousssillon, continuing to expand the company’s portfolio to include wines from both regions.
Philosophy
The Totem Wines philosophy is to create balanced and elegant wines, derived from unique locations, fusing rare and indigenous grapes with expert knowledge, specialist techniques and a passion for wine making.
As fervent admirers of the great wines of the world themselves, the goal is to express the originality and quality of their origin while delivering the delicacy of the world’s greatest wines through taste.
Their vision is to combine traditional aspects of wine making with modern advances. Each authentic wine is created following a series of extensive tests and intensive work in the vineyard and winery, in order to optimise the balance of acidity, bitterness, tannin content and alcohol in the body.
Who we are
Totem Wines is a company born from a shared passion for wine making of two highly qualified Masters, Laurent Frésard and Arnaud Tremblais.
It all began when Laurent, a student in modern languages and Arnaud, an economics student, decided to follow their passions and enroll in a Masters Program in Wine Management and Marketing. Both had previously worked as wine buyers, Laurent in Germany and Arnaud in France, and this was a natural progression.
After spending three years traveling to the world’s finest wine regions, studying techniques, terrain and taste, the pair decided to apply the very best of what they had learnt their own venture, and Totem Wines - now spanning two countries, multiple wineries and six authentic wine blends - was born.
